The role

Story’s Account Managers are forces to be reckoned with. The cogs in the machine of the agency, they are responsible for managing their dedicated portfolio of clients and delivering award-winning results. 

Workload? On it.
Results and KPIs? Relentless in the pursuit of them.
Solutions not problems? Always.
Happy clients? A bucketload.
That’s what we’re after. 

As their portfolio’s point person, Story AMs are expert plate-spinners, responsible for managing the delivery of work across our team, from day-to-day activities through to added-value pizzazz, maintaining regular client communication and handling or escalating issues. 

Managers also have a central role in supporting Story’s operational, business development and marketing activity, mentoring our storytellers and being a beacon of our standards and values. 

What we want

  • Two-to-three years or more experience in comms and PR – ideally with an agency and account management background or a similar in-house role

  • New business – the nous, experience and drive to hunt down and convert the right opportunities

  • Keenness and ability to develop, coach and motivate a team

In practice 

  • Experts in their craft – Story delivers work that makes it onto the family WhatsApp group. We do this through being experts in our craft – from being media mavens with a black book of journalists up our sleeve, to nimble stakeholder managers and social, digital and content storytellers, our Story ‘stamp’ of quality shines in everything we do.

    How? Harnessing our skills, and developing new ones. This means being across the news and the industries we operate in, while building awareness of how the comms industry is changing and how we can stay ‘on point’. 

  • Client handling – agencies live or die on their client service. Project management and relationship pros, our AMs manage client activity, delegate up and down and ensure delivery of work and results on deadline. Our quality controllers, standards stewards, they ensure our best foot is always forward.

    Appreciating the small stuff, they make our clients happy through regular communications and delivering expert counsel, managing issues and bringing a proactive approach to everything they do. From a Story side, this also means monitoring client activity, hours, budgets and invoicing – reporting into the senior team

  • Story shizzle – from ensuring smooth operations through processes, administration and internal communications, to helping us shout about how great we are through our own marketing, and winning new work through building your own network and hunting down opportunities, Story’s yours to shape and grow.

Finer details

  • We are currently working from home but expect to return to an office in Birmingham in 2021. Hybrid working is also expected with some time together in the office and some remote
  • You’ll report directly to a dedicated Account Director and the MD
