Unprecedented. A time like no other. Now, more than ever. The new normal…
Worn out phrases aside, the last year has been one that has tested all businesses. In our day-to-day, we work with firms across sectors – helping them tell stories that build genuine connection with customers, staff and more. During the pandemic, the nature of those stories has changed dramatically.
Stories of invention under pressure, resilience in the face of tragedy, businesses born and those pushing on. The tales we’ve helped tell have been inspiring, uplifting and moving.
That got us thinking. How are the region’s business leaders feeling now and what are they planning for 2021? And so, Midlands: Graft & Grow was born.
This report is an under-the-bonnet look at how Midlands businesses have coped over the last year. What they’ve done well, what they’d change and what they’ve learnt. Crucially, we wanted to know how the disruption of the last year is shaping plans for 2021.
To get under the skin of the region’s business community, we had in-depth conversations with 18 Midlands leaders. From people to politics, innovation to inspiration, cash flow and commercials – our discussions left no stone unturned.
Testing our findings, we also surveyed 50 decision makers from across the Midlands, bringing broader context to the lessons we uncovered.
The result? A report that clearly demonstrates that the Midlands spirit of getting on, working hard and pushing forward is alive and well. Over the last year, our region’s businesses have put in the graft and are now looking ahead to growth.
