Job description

Account Manager/Senior Account Manager

Birmingham, Jewellery Quarter.

Hybrid – currently two days in the office but further days may be required depending on business needs.

We are STORY. A PR agency that tells stories that actually matter.

Our clients make things happen. Across business, finance, law and the built environment – they are the people shaping how cities grow, how money moves and how decisions are made. The stories are real, the stakes are high and when you land the right coverage it really matters.

This is a delivery role. Senior, respected, crucial to how we operate as a news-led agency, but grounded in the craft.

You are confident, energetic and you bring real spark to client and media relationships. You are news-obsessed – you know who’s covering what, you monitor journalist output daily and you are always looking for the in before anyone asks you to find it. People trust you quickly and you work hard to deserve it.

If you need a lot of direction, regular reassurance or someone to tell you what to do next, this probably isn’t the right fit. If you want real accounts, real responsibility and a team that will back you to deliver, read on.

What you will actually do

  • Write – a lot and to a high standard. Press releases, articles, thought leadership, social posts. Strong journalistic instinct. You won’t need your hand held on copy.
  • Create stories. Be able to find the story – in data, case studies, commentary or reports. You have a sense of what media will want.
  • Monitor journalist output daily. Who’s covering what, what angles they’re running, where the in is. You are always looking for the opportunity, not waiting to be briefed on it.
  • Pitch stories to journalists. Build your own media relationships across business, finance and property press. Coverage is currency here.
  • Build and hold trusted client relationships. Not by telling them what they want to hear but by being on it, proactive and invested in their success.
  • Run accounts day to day.  The stuff that makes it all happen. Activity plans, reporting, client comms – you keep everything moving without being chased.
  • Create social content that is intelligent and visual. You’re comfortable with imagery and ideally video. You know what good looks like on LinkedIn and beyond.
  • Stay proactive. You bring ideas to clients before they ask, spot opportunities and think ahead. You don’t sit and wait.
  • Support and inspire. Lead by example in quality, energy and professionalism.
  • Use AI tools intelligently. We are curious about technology but not dependent on it.

What we need from you

  • Minimum four years or more in PR, communications or journalism. You will have managed accounts and relationships, not just supported them.
  • Be genuinely news-obsessed – you read it, watch it, talk about it. You know your clients’ sectors and you follow the journalists who cover them. You spot the angle before the client briefs you.
  • Self starting energy. You don’t need much direction to get going and you’re not looking for it. You work things out, make decisions and keep moving – checking in when it matters, not for reassurance.
  • Clients feel looked after because you’re on it, proactive and invested in their success.
  • Your media relationships are real, built on trust not just a contacts list.
  • Your writing is genuinely strong. You know it and you can prove it.
  • You are organised to the point of slightly annoying.
  • You bring energy and spark.
  • You see networking as part of the job, not an imposition.
  • …..And you want to impress not once, but consistently.

What you get

  • £32k – £42k – benchmarked properly for the role and your experience.
  • 25 days holiday rising to 30 with your birthday off as our gift.
  • Hybrid working – two days in our Jewellery Quarter office.
  • Brand-new Apple tech.
  • A genuine team – not just colleagues.
  • Office dog(s).
