SOPHIE DAVIES – PRCA NEXT GEN

We’re growing – supporting the next generation of PR talent at STORY

Our own Sophie ‘Dave’ Davies is leading the charge for the Midlands’ next generation of PR professionals as the Co-Chair for the PRCA’s Next Gen Midlands committee. Here, she discusses the importance of these networks for young professionals and how STORY is supporting new and emerging talent…

I’d only ever been to networking groups aimed at either young professionals from all sectors, or more senior team members at different stages in their careers to me.

It was only since becoming involved with PRCA Next Gen that I realised a lot of people in the first five years of their careers feel there’s no easy way to meet other PRs to build a support network and to get more comfortable with networking more generally.

With a mentoring scheme and regular events providing training and industry updates alongside networking, the PRCA Next Gen group aims to support the work of both new and existing PR talent as we enter the next phase of our career journey.

Groups like the PRCA Next Gen are about more than just networking and socialising though, they offer the opportunity for knowledge sharing, the chance to discuss recent work and big campaigns and provide career advice to new starters or those looking to progress.

Every day is a school day

At STORY, we support the next generation of PR professionals through our Punk Academy – lunch and learn training sessions led by our team on their specialist subjects. From best practice client service to broadcast PR and crisis, these sessions help the whole team share their knowledge and learn more.

Being able to ask questions of people both within your workplace and outside of your immediate colleagues is something many graduates have missed following years of working from home and hybrid working. Many are not aware of the support available to them or even how to network in the best way, something we encourage and support at STORY.

Building your network is key, and as we push forward with growth and welcome new team members at STORY, the PRCA Next Gen and Punk Academies will support the growth of support and community for up and coming PR talent.

Through the PRCA Next Gen and Punk Academies at STORY, the networking and development opportunities have allowed me to build my confidence in my skills and in my career – all of that wouldn’t be possible without STORY and the opportunities available. For all up and coming PR punks looking to progress in your career, there are roles available to join our growing team for Account Directors, Managers and Executives to apply.

If you are the next generation of PR talent and are looking for a role that will support you, your growth and your career, take a look at our careers page on our brand NEW website and get in touch!
